Bluffton University began their softball program in 1985. Since that year they have had 25 seasons and counting. In these seasons the Beavers have an overall record of 364-376-3. The program has had nine coaches during its existence. The university joined the NCAA in 1991and have yet to make an appearance in the NCAA playoffs.
Since joining the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) in 1999, the Beavers won the conference title three times; 1999, 2004, and 2008. In 1999 they also won the conference tournament title. This past season they finished tied for second in regular season.
Sarah Betts was one of the best players to go through the program. Betts played from 2003 to 2006. She holds 11 of 12 career pitching records that are kept in the record books and nearly every single season record. She holds the record for lowest earned run average at a very impressive 1.36. Betts has the most career wins with 60 and held opponents batting average to a program low .176. In April of 2009 Betts was honored as one of the players of the decade at the HCAC luncheon.
